officer involved shooting

A police officer was hurt, and a wanted man was shot following a confrontation in Ventura County.

An Oxnard Police officer on patrol in a mobile home park on the 1300 block of East Ventura Boulevard Sunday night spotted a man wanted for several arrest warrants. The officer says when he stopped Joel Tapia Junior to arrest him, the 30 year old man resisted.

Prosecutors say their review of an officer involved fatal shooting of a bank robbery suspect in Santa Barbara County shows it was justified.

It happened last August. Investigators say Robert Earl Adams ran away from a group home in Nipomo after threatening staff members with a knife. The next morning, they say the 30 year old man robbed an Orcutt credit union, and fled on foot.

Santa Barbara County prosecutors say Sheriff’s deputies were justified in fatally shooting of a man who snuck into a Goleta home, and confronted arriving officers with a knife.

Last February 17th, the Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls of a man possibly under the influence of drugs jumping over fences into the backyards of some houses, and entering the homes.

More details are expected late Monday about an officer-involved shooting that happened Sunday night in Santa Barbara County.

The shooting took place on Russell Way near La Cumbre, just outside the Santa Barbara city limits, at about 10 p.m.

An autopsy shows a Central Coast man fatally wounded in a confrontation with police died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Preliminary autopsy results were released for Michael Giles. Lompoc Police say he was armed with a knife at the time of the confrontation.
