Ventura County Steps Up To Help Thomas Fire Victims

Ventura County is taking part in a state program to help people who’ve had their homes destroyed, or seriously damaged by the Thomas Fire start the rebuilding process.

The County will offer the California Office of Emergency Services Debris Removal Program. CalReycle will coordinate the removal of home debris, the building slab, and topsoil at no upfront cost to the property owner, with government agencies getting reimbursement from the owner’s insurance company.

County officials say cleanup could start as soon as mid-January. This program is for the approximately 250 homes destroyed, or significantly damaged in unincorporated parts of the county.

Ventura County Supervisors also agreed to wave more than a dozen fees for people rebuilding their homes, like the reconnection of gas service fee.
