It’s a major honor for a scientific researcher to receive international recognition for their work. But, a UC Santa Barbara physicist is also getting a huge check with an award he’s just won.
Dr. Joseph Polchinski received the 2017 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics. He’s sharing the award, and a $3 million dollar prize two Harvard physicists. Polchinski is part of UCSB’s Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics.
He received the award for his breakthroughs in quantum field theory, string theory, and quantum gravity.
