As Thomas Fire Is Slowly Contained, Ash Cleanup Begins

Sweepers will be rolling soon to clean the streets in Santa Barbara from all, or at least most of, the ash from the Thomas Fire.

The city has sweeper trucks that can get 80% of the ash, working in a massive operation beyond the normal scope.

City leaders say when the vehicles go through, the remaining dust will be kicked up. They urge residents to wear their n95 masks, even if the air might not be visibly clouded.

The particulates can be present and dangerous.
