Technology Helps Nab Burglary Suspect On South Coast

Technology has apparently helped to nab a burglary suspect on the South Coast who tried to steal from a neighbor’s home -- not once, but twice.

The victims had a large amount of cash stolen from their Fillmore home about a month ago. That prompted them to install a WiFi–enabled motion activated camera system, which operates with an application on a cell phone.

“On the morning of June 6th, they received notification that there was motion detected inside their home," said Ventura County Sheriff's Captain Randy Downard. "Upon watching the live feed from the camera, the victms immediately recognized their neighbor was inside their house."

Detectives determined that Frank Hurtado had stolen money from their home. He was arrested.

Authorities say it if weren’t for the modern technology, the crime may have gone unsolved.
