State Allocates Nearly $100 Million Dollars For New Highway Improvements In Santa Barbara County

Three major highway repair projects in Santa Barbara County are among the latest to be funded by a new effort to improve the state’s infrastructure.

Nearly $70 million dollars in state funding will be used to improve 28 miles of Highway 101 south of the Gaviota Tunnel. In addition to repaving, the work will include widening the freeway’s shoulders and upgrading guardrails.

$17 million dollars has been allocated to replace the Highway 101 bridges over San Jose Creek in Goleta. And, a $12 million dollar project will improve undercrossings at La Colina Road, and Primavera Road on Highway 154 in Santa Barbara.

The funding comes from SB 1, legislation passed by the state this year to spend $1.8 billion dollars a year on needed state highway repairs.
