Small Spot Fires Close Highway 154 Between Santa Barbara And Top Of San Marcos Pass

Firefighters quickly knocked down some small spot brush fires along Highway 154 in Santa Barbara County Friday afternoon, but the fires closed the highway for more than three hours.

Traffic wasn't allowed to go up San Marcos Pass out of Santa Barbara.  Eastbound traffic coming from the Santa Ynez Valley was diverted into the Santa Barbara area via Old San Marcos Road.

The fires were first reported at about 3:45, and may have been sparked by a passing vehicle.

Highway 154 was closed for much of the Friday afternoon and evening commute.
