The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department is warning seniors to be cautious of a phone scam that sounds very realistic.
The caller claims to be from the Sheriff's Department and even uses the name of a current deputy.
It claims that a warrant has been issued for failing to appear for jury duty.
To resolve it the caller requests a pre-paid credit card with the authorization number phoned in.
The Sheriff's Department says it never does this or requests phone payments.
A scam alert public meeting for seniors is set for later this month in Goleta.
