Area known as Carpinteria Bluffs III named Rincon Bluffs Preserve

A huge community campaign led to the purchase and preservation of some prime undeveloped coastal bluffs in Santa Barbara County zoned for development.

The Land Trust for Santa Barbara County, Citizens for Carpinteria Bluffs, and the City of Carpinteria raised $7.9 million dollars to buy and preserve the 22 acres of land. But, there were questions as to what to call it.

The Land Trust oversaw a contest, which received 80 plus suggestions ranging from the light hearted, like “Carpy Diem,” to the serious, like “People’s Bluffs.”

The winner chosen by a community committee is “Rincon Bluffs Preserve.” Plans are being finalized for the initial improvements to the preserve, with elements like a parking lot, trails, benches, and bathrooms.
