Nation's Largest Pro Cycling Event Comes To South Coast

The nation’s largest professional cycling event comes to the South Coast Monday.

It’s Day Two of the Amgen Tour of California.

The world’s top cyclists will travel nearly 100 miles in a route which takes them from Ventura to the mountains above Santa Barbara. The race starts at 11:15 at the Ventura Pier. The riders will travel through Oxnard, Camarillo, Santa Paula, and Ojai. They’ll head through the foothills of Carpinteria and Montecito to finish on Gibraltar Road, above Santa Barbara.

There are numerous places to watch the riders along the route. However, unlike past races in the region, limited access on Gibraltar Road means the finish line isn’t open to the public. Fans can watch the finish live as it is broadcast live internationally on the NBC Sports cable network.

Lance Orozco has been News Director of KCLU since 2001, providing award-winning coverage of some of the biggest news events in the region, including the Thomas and Woolsey brush fires, the deadly Montecito debris flow, the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and Ronald Reagan's funeral.
