Federal investigators are trying to figure out what led to a plane crash in Ventura County which killed two people.

A light plane crashed near Santa Paula Airport just after 2 p.m. Saturday on a ranch on the 17000 block of South Mountain Road.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Office officials say the plane narrowly missed some homes, and clipped a storage container and a wall before crashing into some trees.

The two people on board the plane were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names haven’t been released yet. The crash started a small fire which was quickly extinguished. No one on the ground was hurt.
