About a thousand people on the Central Coast were walking for 24 hours over the weekend to fight cancer.
Relay For Life took place at the Santa Maria Fairpark with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. Each team took turns walking around the track from 10 am Saturday until 10 am Sunday.
"Tiring, of course, because we tire out just like the patients do. Because we are going for 24 hours. But, you just know that you have to keep going, so you do. You fight just like the patients do," said Brenda Arellano who has been participating for the last 12 years in memory of her sister who died from cancer. "Cancer never sleeps, so we don't sleep either."
This Santa Maria event has raised more than $120,000. Relay For Life events also took place this weekend in Paso Robles and Port Hueneme.
