House Passes Package To Beef Up Voter Protections; Includes Bills By Ventura County Congresswoman

The House of Representatives passed a package of legislation including bills from a Ventura County congresswoman intended to protect the integrity of voting. HR 1 includes two bills from Democratic Congresswoman Julia Brownley of Westlake Village.

One would require all states to follow California in offering same-day voter registration.

Brownley’s second piece of legislation attempts to end partisan gerrymandering of districts. It calls for states to set up a citizens redistricting commission to remove politicians from the redistricting process.

The overall package also include provisions intended to beef up voting system security, and improving access to voting through things like early in person voting, and expanded voting by mail. The package now goes to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
