Authorities are trying to figure out what led to an early morning fire which disrupted traffic on a section of Highway 101 on the South Coast during the morning commute, one which may have caused a death.
Santa Barbara firefighters were called to the area of South Voluntario Street at around two a.m. Monday by reports of smoke. They found smoke coming from both sides of a drainage pipe on both side of the freeway.
The fire was knocked down in about 45 minutes, and put out around 90 minutes later. Firefighters searching the pipe then found a body inside.
There's no word yet on the cause of death, or the identity of the person. Traffic on the freeway was back to normal by mid-morning.
