Fire Prompts Cancellation Of Some Weekend Community Events On South Coast

Dense smoke from the Thomas Fire blankets much of the South Coast, leading to unhealthful air quality. This is the scene on Highway 101 in Ventura Friday morning

The Thomas fire has led to the cancellation of a number of community events this weekend on the South Coast, many of which are holiday related.

The Pleasant Valley Recreation & Park District pulled the plug on its Christmas Parade, and Santa’s Village Event originally planned for Saturday in Camarillo.

The “Santa To The Sea” half marathon set for Sunday will not take place this year. The event raises money for college scholarships, and toys for children in need. Runners can go to the giant Santa statue next to Highway 101 in Ventura County which is the starting line from 10-4 Saturday to pick up their race t-shirts, and drop off the toys they’ve collected.

And, Santa Barbara Harbor’s “Parade of Lights” which had been set for Sunday night will not take place this year due to the impacts of the fire.
