Santa Barbara is working to improve 41 intersections, mainly in the downtown area, to have better signals, more synchronization and other safety elements.
The streets involved include Mission, Micheltorena, Carrillo, Cota, Hayley, Las Positas and a number of other intersections in the upper State Street area.
Santa Barbara has one of the highest rates of vehicle vs. pedestrian and vehicle vs. bicycle accidents compared to other cities of the same size in California.
