It may be July, but pro football is in the spotlight on the South Coast Monday, with the Dallas Cowboys set to open their 2017 training camp in Oxnard.
Dallas Cowboys fans from around the country will be flocking to Oxnard, as the city hosts the team’s training camp July 24th through August 17th.
Opening ceremonies will take place beginning at 3:45 p.m. Monday at the team’s practice facility, next to the Marriott Residence Inn off of West Vineyard Avenue, in Oxnard.
At a kickoff news conference for the camp on Sunday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones focused the spotlight on Oxnard for again making the camp possible. He says the welcoming response they get from fans, and the city makes the camp feel at home.
It could be a tough camp for the Cowboys, not because of what’s happening on the field, but off the field. Several players are in trouble with the law and the league over alleged criminal and drug offenses, a situation which could affect their ability to start for the team. The Cowboys are scheduled to have 15 practice sessions open to the public. Admission is free, but there is a parking fee.
