Brush Fire Near Lake Sherwood In Ventura County Now 70% Contained; Full Containment Expected Tonight

(VCFD Air Unit)
Fire near Lake Sherwood, in Ventura County at its peak Wednesday evening; blaze now 70% contained

Firefighters now have 70% containment of a brush fire which caused a big scare in the lake Sherwood area of Ventura County yesterday.

The nearly 80 acre blaze broke out just before four p.m. yesterday, burning near two housing developments.   It sent up a huge plume of smoke, visible for miles. However, firefighters were able to quickly act to protect the homes, and no evacuations were ultimately ordered.

More than 300 firefighters aided by helicopters, and air tankers battled the fire last night, stopping its growth before sunset.  As mopup efforts continue today, about half of the firefighters have been released.  Firefighters expect to have full containment of the fire by around six tonight.

No structures were damaged.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
