Ventura County Voters Will Be Asked To Consider Half Cent Sales Tax For Transportation Projects

Ventura County voters are going to be asked whether they are willing to spend a little more money to improve the region’s highways, streets, and transportation infrastructure.

Ventura County Supervisors approved putting a proposed half cent sales tax on the November ballot. If approved by a two-thirds majority, it would generate an estimated $70 million dollars a year for transportation projects.

There’s a formula on how the money would be used, with some going to regional projects like improving Highway 101, while other chunks would go to the county, and its ten cities for their road, and street improvements. It would also establish funding for improving Metrolink, and bus services, as well as expanding bike and pedestrian routes.

If approved by voters, the new sales tax would remain in effect for 30 years.
