Ventura County Man Arrested For Nearly Two Decade Old Cold Case Murder In Oregon

A man wanted for a murder nearly two decades ago in Oregon has been found in Ventura County, and Arrested.

Fernando Cortez was wanted by Salem, Oregon police for a 1998 slaying. Salem Police contacted the Ventura County Violent Crimes Task Force, and the FBI after they discovered the now 45 year old man might be living on the South Coast.

The task force found and positively identified Cortez, who was living in Oxnard and using the name Moises Garibay.

He was arrested without incident Tuesday morning, and booked at the Ventura County Jail on a second degree murder charge.  Details of the cold case leading to the arrest haven't been released.
