Ventura County is getting a new court commissioner.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Derek Malan will become the county’s newest court commissioner August 8th, after being selected for the post by the county’s Superior Court judges. He’s been a prosecutor with the county for 16 years. Most recently, he’s been working with the DA’s Major Crimes Unity, working with a multi-agency task force targeting domestic, and international drug trafficking.
Malan will fill the vacancy created by the appointment of Commissioner Michele Castillo to a Superior Court seat. Court commissioners hear issues ranging from criminal and small claims cases to family law.
