Three Santa Barbara County Custody Deputies Injured In Disturbance At Main Jail

A Santa Barbara County jail inmate is going to be facing new charges after County Sheriff’s Office officials say he attacked and injured three custody deputies.

Two deputies entered his cell Sunday morning when they discovered he appeared to be trying to hang himself. But, when they opened the cell door, the man attacked one of them and ran into the corridor.

The inmate continued to fight with responding deputies even after being tased multiple times. He was eventually handcuffed, but not before two more deputies were hurt. The deputies were taken to a hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries, and released.

They say the inmate is also being investigated for an attack on other inmates on Sunday. Investigators aren’t releasing his name, or details on why he was already in jail.
