Thomas Fire Now At 89% Containment; Isolated Flames In Back Country

Ventura County firefighters used some special foam Wednesday to knock down some natural oil seep blazes in the Upper Ojai triggered by the Thomas Fire

Firefighters say efforts to contain the massive Thomas brush fire continue to go well, with no additional forward progress of the fire expected.

Containment is up to 89%, with 281,000 acres burned. The little remaining active fire continues to be in back country areas. There are a few hot spots on the northeast corner of the fire, in the Bear Haven area.

U.S. Forest Service officials say we could continue to see smoke coming from the back country as well as firefighting helicopters flying in that direction.

Meanwhile, Ventura County firefighters used a special foam to extinguish some natural oil seep fires triggered by the Thomas blaze burning in the Upper Ojai area.  They say they were using a special foam created to extinguish petroleum fires.

Full containment of the fire still isn’t expected until early January.
