Thievery Spree Strike Several South Coast Communities

Many car owners are finding their belongings missing in what appears to be a targeted crime spree.

Thieves appear to be active in the Carpinteria, Summerland and Montecito area this week.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's department is reporting a long list of claims from people who say items have been taken from their cars and in some cases their homes.

On one night alone, there were ten crimes reported involving valuables stolen from cars in the Carpinteria area on Venice Lane and also on Canalino Drive in the city.

Nearby there were related thefts called in at Ortega Hill road and Danielson Lane in the Summerland - Montecito area.

Investigators say in many cases thieves are not breaking windows, but are instead looking for unlocked cars or open windows.
