A teacher has been seriously injured by a chemical spill in the science room at a South Coast junior high school. The accident was at Santa Barbara’s La Cumbre Junior High School.
The spill happened just before 9 a.m. Monday. There were no students at the room at the time. The teacher suffered burns from the sulfuric acid. She was first taken to Cottage Hospital, and then a Los Angeles area hospital for treatment. Her name hasn’t been released.
The spill was confined to one classroom. Students had classes in other areas of the school while cleanup was underway, but they were able to safely remain on campus.
