Strawberries Remain Top Crop In Ventura County, But Overall Ag Total Down

Strawberries remain the king crop in Ventura County, according to the county’s just released 2016 crop report.

The report from the Ventura County Agricultural Commissioner’s office shows that the county’s ag output had $2.1 billion dollars in value in 2016. That’s down 4.2%, or $88 million dollars from 2015.

Strawberries made up more than a quarter of the county’s total ag output. Lemons and nursery stock came in second and third overall. Raspberries showed a major drop due to a reduction in planet acreage, and avocados slumped because of heat, drought, and increases in the imported crop.
