A state senator from Santa Barbara who’s fought for years for equal pay for women has authored a new bill to continue the battle.
SB 1284 would require companies with 100 or more employees to submit an annual salary report to the state, with a breakdown of compensation by gender, race, ethnicity, and job category.
Democratic State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson says the legislation would provide information needed to address pay disparity issues. Jackson says despite the passage of legislation to deal with the issue, women in the state on average earn only 80% of when men are paid.
