State Kicks In $22 Million Dollars To Support Commuter Rail Service On South Coast

State officials announced a massive new grant to support commuter rail service between Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.

The Ventura County Transportation Commission and the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments launched the new rail service between the counties at the beginning of this month.

Now, the California State Transportation Agency has kicked in $22 million dollars to support the effort.

Nearly $13 million dollars will go to build a new train station in Goleta. And, the state agency allocated $9.6 million dollars to expand the Coastal Express bus service. The additional busses will give commuters more flexibility, in case the schedule for the new round trip train service doesn’t work for them.
