A South Coast university has received a million dollar plus grant to help at risk middle and high school students have a better chance of success in high school, and college.
California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks is getting a $1.2 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Education to expand its TRIO program. 500 students at five middle schools and two high schools in western Ventura County will be served during the five year long effort.
Students will get academic support and counseling, help in preparation for college entrance exams, and assistance in applying for financial aid.
The funding will allow the expansion of CLU’s existing federally funded TRIO programs serving at risk students in the region.
CLU is the parent of KCLU Radio.
