One of the South Coast’s most respected newspapers changed hands today, and is now in the same family as USA Today.
Federal regulators approved the Gannett Company’s purchase of the Journal Media Group. The Ventura Star was part of the Journal Group. Gannett paid about $280 million dollars for the Journal newspapers, which included newspapers in 14 markets.
In California, the deal included the Star, as well as the Redding Record Searchlight. Gannett now operates USA today, as well as 107 daily newspapers in 34 states.
