There’s an event happening on the South Coast that celebrates the region’s seafood and the fishermen who harvest it.

It’s Santa Barbara’s 16th annual Harbor and Seafood Festival on Saturday, October 14. It coincides with the opening of commercial lobster season.

Dominique Samario with the city of Santa Barbara Waterfront Department says you can meet fishermen face-to-face.

"One of the neatest aspects of the festival is that there's an area where you can go over and interact with the local fishermen. You can pick out fresh fish to enjoy there that they will prepare for you. Lobster, crab, fresh sea urchin "uni", which we are actually known for throughout the world," she said.

In addition to fresh seafood, the festival features live music, maritime education, free boat rides and dockside tours.

It runs from 10 am to 5 pm at the Santa Barbara Harbor.
