Shipping Pods Could Get New Life On South Coast Helping The Homeless

Ventura County is looking at a new approach in getting some basic services to the homeless, by repurposing some giant moving pods.

County Supervisors Tuesday will look at retrofitting three portable shipping containers for use as field service centers. The pods would have showers and exam areas so the homeless can get vaccinations and other basic medical treatment.

Supervisors are being asked to approve a nearly $200,000 contract to retrofit pods for use in Ventura, Oxnard, and Santa Paula during the next three years.
