Some scammers claiming to represent the court system on the South Coast are using e-mails, and phone calls to try to get personal information.

Ventura Superior Court officials issued a warning about the scam. They say some county residents have received some official looking e-mails regarding issues like court fines and notice to appear in court.

Some other the victims reported received phone calls from people claiming to be Sheriff’s Office officials, who demanded payment for supposed fines or penalties with cash gift cards. Court officials are urging people to be aware of the scams, and not being caught by them.
