Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputies Carrying Anti-Overdose Drug In Response To Opioid Abuse

All Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputies have been carrying a special nasal spray to help save the lives of drug overdose victims.

Recently, in response to a Goleta man who was experiencing an overdose, a Narcan nasal device was used.

The device blocks and can reverse the effects of an opioid.

The sheriff's unit arrived on the scene within three minutes.

Emergency room doctors say that timing is essential to saving a life in overdose cases.

All deputies have been trained and have kits available with them in their mobile units.

Narcan is also referred to as Naloxone, and can be purchased without a prescription.
