A major plan to improve recycling, and extend the life of a key South Coast dump is getting another look from the Santa Barbara County Planning Commission. The Tajiguas Resource Recovery Project calls for the addition of a state of the art material Recovery Facility at the dump, to pull our recyclables, and extract organic wastes. A new Anaerobic Digestion Facility will process organic wastes, creating methane gas and compost. Santa Barbara County, and its partner cities approved contracts for the project last year, but it was discovered part of the project’s footprint extended into the coastal zone. The Planning Commission is set to consider a revised plan Wednesday with a project outside of the coastal zone.
