Santa Barbara Celebrates Heritage With Old Spanish Days, But What's The Story Behind It?

Musical and dance performances are among the highlights of Santa Barbara's Old Spanish Days celebration

The South Coast’s largest annual community celebration is in full swing today.

Santa Barbara’s Old Spanish Days is underway, a tradition which attracts hundreds of thousands people to its five days of events. It’s a commemoration of the city’s roots which dates back to the 1920's. But, the origins extend further back into history, going back to the ranches which surrounded the Santa Barbara area.

It's evolved and grown from its earliest days, but the community's history remains at the core of Fiesta.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports from Santa Barbara, where he looks at the story behind the celebration.
