President Trump Hails Firefighter From Central Coast As Hero During State Of The Union Address

Damage at the Circle V Ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley from the Whittier Fire

A firefighter who helped get dozens of kids, and staff members at a summer camp to safety during a major brush fire in Santa Barbara County was thrust into the national spotlight by President Trump.

The firefighter was one of the guests hailed as a hero at last night’s State of the Union address in Washington, D.C.

Dave Dahlberg was the first firefighter to arrive at a summer camp threatened by the Whittier brush fire, at Lake Cachuma last summer. The U.S. Forest Service firefighter and other first responders realized that they couldn’t safely evacuate the Circle V Ranch, so they herded everyone into a safe area to wait out the inferno. President Trump hailed Dahlberg for his action. Thanks to the actions of the first responders, no one at the camp was hurt, even though some buildings were lost.

The Santa Barbara County firefighter was one of about a dozen people recognized by the president as a part of his speech last night.
