Ventura County is going to host a pro football team temporarily displaced by Hurricane Irma.
Oxnard officials say the Miami Dolphins will hold their practices in the city as they prepare for next Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Oxnard has hosted summer training camps over the years for the Oakland Raiders, New Orleans Saints, and for many years the Dallas Cowboys. Now, the city is stepping up to help the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins will use the River Ridge practice fields used by the Cowboys just a few weeks ago.
The Dolphins are set to play the L-A Chargers at the Stubhub Center in Carson next Sunday, so training nearby makes sense for the team. It will be the first regular season game of the season for the team, with the hurricane prompting postponement of the scheduled September 10th game in Tampa to November 19th.
The team’s Oxnard practices won’t be open to the public.
City officials say they are glad to be able to help the Dolphins with the situation they are facing by being displaced by the hurricane.
