New Police Chief For South Coast Community To Be Named Today

After a nationwide search, Santa Barbara is about to name a new Police Chief.

The city has been looking for a replacement for Cam Sanchez who retired after 16 years in February. A special consulting firm helped with recruitment efforts, and background checks.

The City Council will meet behind closed doors before making the announcement this afternoon. The new chief is expected to take over the post in mid July.

The city will announce the salary and benefits package when the decision is official.

Chief Sanchez left with a salary in excess of $210,000 plus benefits, according to city and other sources familiar with the pay structure for the department.

Interim Police Chief John Crombach a former Oxnard Chief, is expected to stay on until the transition is complete.
