National Weather Service Says Storm Hitting Central, South Coasts So Far Weaker Than Expected

Rain in a Montecito creek bed Tuesday afternoon

A storm which raised major flooding, and debris flow concerns for some burn areas in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties has so far been weaker than expected.

Rainfall amounts have been generally lower, and some thunderstorm activity off the coast has dissipated.

There is concern that locally heavy rainfall could triger flooding, and debris flows in brush fire burn zones, and that prompted a number of mandatory and some voluntary evacuations.  Meteorologists say the biggest potential for problems appears to be up until about 7 Tuesday night.
