Authorities are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was struck, and killed by a passenger train on the South Coast.

The man was hit just west of the Amtrak station in Ventura Sunday afternoon. The train’s conductor told police that the train had just left the station, and was traveling at about 25 miles an hour when the man walked on the tracks in the train’s path.

The man, who appeared to be in his late 30’s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name hasn’t been released yet. No one on the train was hurt.
