Man Stabbed In Apparently Random Attack In South Coast Restaurant Dies

A man who was apparently randomly attacked while he was eating dinner with his family at a South Coast restaurant has died.

Ventura Police say the stabbing occurred just after nine Wednesday night at a restaurant on the 300 block of California Street.

A man walked into the restaurant, and stabbed Anthony Mele as he was sitting at a table with his wife, and young daughter. The five year old girl was sitting on the victim’s lap at the time of the attack, but she was unhurt. Witnesses chased the attacker as he fled.

Police officers arrested Jamal Jackson a few block away, on the beach. They say the 49 year old man was a transient. Mele later died as a result of the stab wound to the neck.
