Man Killed In South Coast Plane Crash Identified

A Ventura County man is being identified as the victim of a plane crash outside of Ventura.

Michael Brannigan died just before noon Thursday,  when the single engine plane he was flying crashed between Ventura and Santa Barbara, on the north side of Highway 101 near Solimar Beach.

The Lake Sherwood man was alone in the plane. National Transportation Safety Board investigators are trying to determine what led to the accident, but eyewitnesses reported seeing pieces of the plane in the sky before it crashed. Some debris believed to be from the 52 year old man’s plane was found at a nearby beach.
