Man Convicted of First Degree Murder For Brutal Slaying Of Teen In Ventura County Park

A Ventura County man faces a 50 years to life sentence after being convicted of first degree murder for shooting to death a teenager in a park.

The killing happened in June of 2012, in Ventura’s Saticoy Park. Prosecutors say Justin Patino and another gang member went to the park armed with guns, specifically looking for rival gang members.

They saw Joshua Burciaga walking through the park with a group of girls. Mistaking him for a rival, they opened fire, and the 14 year old was hit and fell to the ground. Prosecutors say the men then walked up to the teen and shot him several times in the head, killing him.
