Man Arrested On Arson Charge On Central Coast; Accused Of Trying To Burn Confederate Flag

Authorities say it was a strange arson case on the Central Coast, involving a Confederate flag.

A man was arrested after witnesses say he set fire to a Confederate flag draped over the rear of a woman’s pickup truck.

The incident happened Friday, outside of a restaurant in Oceano. A witness reported seeing a man set the flag on fire, and someone ran out of the restaurant with a pitcher of water to put it out. San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies reviewed a surveillance tape from the area, and got a description of a suspect.

On Saturday, they spotted Mitchell Davis of Seattle as he was walking near the scene of the incident. They say the 20 year old transient was arrested on charges ranging from arson and a civil rights violation to resisting arrest.
