Legislation to name a post office in Santa Barbara County after a Navy Seal from the county who was killed in action in Afghanistan is now on President Obama’s desk, awaiting his action.
HR 3218 would rename the U.S. Post Office on the 1200 block of State Street in Santa Barbara the “Special Warfare Operator Master Chief Petty Officer Lou Langlais Post Office Building.
Langlais grew up in Santa Barbara County, and had a 25 year career in the military. He was one of 30 service members who died in August of 2011, when the helicopter they were in was shot down over eastern Afghanistan. He left behind a wife, and two children.
Democratic Congresswoman Lois Capps of Santa Barbara sponsored the legislation to honor the Navy Seal. The U.S. Senate approved the bill this week, which had already been passed by the House of Representatives.
