KCLU Wins Six Associated Press Awards

The Associated Press has honored KCLU with six AP awards for the station’s news coverage in 2017.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco and Debra Greene are being honored in a number of AP categories in the Division II (small station) category for the Western United States.

Orozco won First Place AP awards for “Best Public Service” reporting for his field coverage of the Thomas Fire, and “Best Sports Feature Story” for “LA Has Rams, Chargers, But Ventura County has Dallas Cowboys,” a feature about the Cowboys training camp in Oxnard.

Orozco and Greene packed a one-two punch for “Best Radio Use Of Sound” with "It's Fried Fun with Food at the Ventura County Fair" taking first place, and Greene’s "Music Helps Dementia Patients" wining a second.

Orozco won a second for “Best Feature” for “Ant Dog,” a story about efforts to find an invasive species of ants in the Channel Islands.

Additionally, KCLU News won a second place award in Division Two for “Outstanding Radio News Operation” for 2017.

KCLU News has now won more than 50 Associated Press journalism awards since 2002.
