Hundreds of pounds of illegal fireworks seized from Ventura County home, and man arrested

A Ventura County man was arrested after detectives say they discovered he had hundreds of pounds of illegal fireworks at his home.

Ventura County Sheriff’s investigators say they received information that Alfredo Avalos was selling pyrotechnics from his Fillmore house. After getting a search warrant, they say they found 600 pounds of fireworks at the man’s Fourth Street home.

Detectives say they also seized some weapons, including an assault rifle, a stolen gun, and an unlicensed weapon. So-called “safe and sane” fireworks are legal in Fillmore, but other types of fireworks are illegal.

Avalos is facing a half dozen charges related to the fireworks and weapons.
