Hundreds Greet South Coast College Baseball Team Which Won National NCAA Title

California Lutheran University baseball team gets big welcome home after winning NCAA Division III World Series

A South Coast college baseball team got a big welcome home Wednesday after winning the NCAA Division III College World Series.

Hundreds of people were on hand as California Lutheran University’s baseball team returned home after winning the Division III College World Series in Wisconsin Tuesday.

Students, parents, and CLU staff greeted the team bus as it arrived at the university’s sport complex, with some fans showering the team with apple cider standing in for champagne.

Eddie Villegas, a catcher on the championship team, says the whole thing was exciting, but still a little surreal. It’s the first ever NCAA championship for the CLU baseball team, and for head coach Marty Slimak, who’s guided the Kingsmen for 24 years.

CLU won the title by taking two out of three games from Washington and Jefferson College.
