Homeless Man Recovering After Being Swept Away By Floodwaters In Ventura County

A man almost died after being swept into a drainage canal in Ventura County during this week’s big storm.

The homeless man was camping in a drainage wash near Yosemite Avenue in Simi Valley yesterday morning when heavy rain swept him and his camp into a nearby drainage canal. He was swept downstream.

The man was finally able to pull himself out of the drain near Stearns Street. He walked to some nearby apartments, where a resident called 911. The man was taken to a hospital where he was treated for some non-life threatening injuries.
